Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's upcoming spy-thriller Ram has been in production limbo for years. Producer Ramesh P. Pillai recently provided some clarity on the movie during his interaction with the media.

Ramesh confirmed that Ram is a huge film in terms of scale and budget, and the filmmakers are planning to release the first part of this thriller by the end of this year.

"We have already completed 126 days of shooting. We just need to shoot one portion in London. When we planned the shoot, it was heavily raining in London. That schedule will cost Rs 1.5 crore per day. Since it was raining, we couldn't complete the shoot. We need to go back in November to match the weather. In August, we will go to Tunisia and shoot for 22 days continuously. Then London, where we will shoot for 15 days. We will also shoot in Mumbai, Chennai, and Kerala. We have about 52 days of shooting left and are planning to release it during the Christmas holiday this year," said Ramesh.

Ram, written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, is touted to be a globe-trotting spy thriller. Filming began in January 2020, but production came to a standstill following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. A significant portion of the movie was to be shot in multiple foreign locations, and prolonged pandemic restrictions in many countries further delayed production.

In the meantime, Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal moved on to other projects. The film boasts an all-star supporting cast, including Samyuktha Menon and Trisha.

On the career front, Mohanlal was last seen in Malaikottai Vaaliban. Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, the film opened amid huge hype but failed to click at the box office.

Mohanlal is now busy shooting for L2: Empuraan, a sequel to his 2019 blockbuster Lucifer.
