Robert Downey Jr is reportedly trying hard to get Johnny Depp cast in Sherlock Holmes 3

Actor Johnny Depp is currently in a legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard after filing a defamation lawsuit against her. The actor lost a lot of major movie roles including Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts after Amber Heard accused Depp of assault.

According to the report, Robert Downey Jr would like to cast Depp in a major role for the third installment in the popular Sherlock Holmes franchise after the trial is over.

The report comes after a popular Twitter speculation about Downey trying to get Depp in the movie.

The FandomWire report states that Robert Downey Jr, "always wanted to work with famous personalities. And big talks are going on about Johnny Depp might come ahead to sign the contract for the movie.”

One tweet from November 2020 stated: “A Friend in need is a Friend indeed! Robert Downey Jr. Reportedly Pushing For Johnny Depp To Have Sherlock Holmes 3 Role. Depp helped RDJ in his bad times in 2008, if not for Depp then we wouldn’t’ve had such an awesome Iron man. #rdj #johnnydepp #rdjdepp #robertdowneyj.”

Sherlock Holmes 3 has been stuck in development hell for a while now due to many reasons like the pandemic, script issues, and sources close to the project saying that it is currently "on the back burner".

However, there are two spinoff series based on the movies in development with Robert Downey Jr reportedly producing them

Now whether or not these rumors are true remains to be seen however what is true is that both actors share a friendship that started in the 1980s, with Downey saying in a 2011 interview that, "there's no one I admire more than Mr. Depp."

Currently, Depp only has one future project that he is attached to, a French movie called Jeanne Du Barry in which he will play the role of King Louis XV.
