Sara Ali Khan on Atrangi Re director Aanand L Rai: “He made me perform when my self-esteem was at its lowest”

Sara Ali Khan was last seen on-screen with Love Aaj Kal . The film released in February 2020, but failed to perform well in theatres. But, Sara is all set to prove her mettle with the upcoming film Atrangi Re . Directed by Aanand L Rai , the film also stars Dhanush and Akshay Kumar . Now, in a recent interview, Sara has opened up about how director Aanand L Rai showed unwavering faith in the actress, even when she did not believe in herself.

Talking to Midday, Sara opened up about Aanand L. Rai and said, “He loved me so much on that set. I started this film a week after Love Aaj Kal [2020] released. That film didn’t do well. Being with Aanand sir helped me rebuild myself. He had confidence in me when I did not. He made me perform when my self-esteem was at its lowest.”

She further added, “Aanand sir found vulnerability and innocence in me, which I hide beneath my confidence. He helped me bring those out on screen. So, in some ways, my character is like me. I am softer on the inside than I show. I have grown up with a single mother, and learnt from her that I need a hard exterior to protect what’s inside.”

Sara Ali Khan will play the character of Rinku in the film. The film will release on 24thDecember on Disney + Hotstar .
