Sony's upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson the character will be different from the comics

Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man 's most iconic villains and is Sony's latest attempt at launching a Spider-Man villain movie without the web-slinger.

The studio's track record so far has been a complete disaster, while movies like Venom were box-office successes it was not well received by fans or critics.

And the latest entry Morbius has turned itself into an unintentional joke, spawning multiple memes online.

Hopefully, the studio has learned its lesson and ensured that Kraven the Hunter does not suffer the same fate.

In the comics, Kraven aka Sergei Kravinoff is a big game hunter who tracks and hunts down exotic prey and picks Spider-Man as his next target.

Kraven is an excellent marksman and skilled with the bow and arrow but prefers to fight the deadliest creatures with his bare hands, he consumes a special serum that enhances strength and dramatically slows the aging process.

While initially introduced as a villain, he is later turned into a sort of antihero.

In a recent interview with Variety star of the movie, Aaron Taylor-Johnson expressed what attracted him to the role and how the movie was shot on location and described his character as

“one of Marvel ’s most iconic, notorious anti-heroes — Spider Man’s number one rival."

He continued “not an alien or a wizard. He’s just a hunter, a human with conviction. An animal lover and a protector of the natural world. He’s a very, very cool character.” He then added that “this one is shot entirely on location.”

Aaron become attached to the project in 2021 and filming started on March 20, 2022, in London.

    J. C. Chandor known for directing movies like Triple Frontier and A Most Violent Year is helming the project.

The rest of the cast includes Ariana DeBose, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, Russell Crowe , Fred Hechinger, and Levi Miller.

Kraven the Hunter will hit theaters on January 13, 2023.
