‘Sushmita Sen could have been number one actress, she is a love digger not gold digger’: says ex boyfriend Vikram Bhatt

Amid the furore over Lalit Modi and Sushmita Sen ’s relationship, the latter’s ex-boyfriend and filmmaker Vikram Bhatt stood up for the actress. He said that Sushmita would be the last person to check bank balances before falling in love citing an anecdote from his past affair with the actress. For the unversed, Vikram and Sushmita dated for almost two years in 1996 before parting ways.

During an interaction with a news portal, Vikram shared his opinion on the ongoing trolling against Sushmita for dating rich businessman Lalit Modi. Post numerous trolls called her a ‘gold digger’, Vikram said Sushmita is a love digger, not a gold digger. He shared that when he was directing Ghulam , he had no money but Sushmita was the first person who took him to the US and paid for his trip.

Bhatt further elaborated on the mentality of the social media trolls saying that it is part of every celebrity’s life. He said that making fun of other people’s lives is entertainment, it has been always there. Taking the example of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan ’s age gap, he said that it goes with the territory that any decision of them seemed funny to netizens, and they start trolling.

Reacting to Lalit‘s relationship announcement post, Bhatt said that the poor businessman did not that he is not allowed to be happy in this world. He also took Sushmita’s former boyfriend’s name Rohman Shawl to make a point that why he was not called a gold digger when he dated former Miss Universe. “ I mean you can’t see that there can be love between two people regardless of money. You decide 'Oh, look at him, why should she be with him? Ah, money!' Why can’t it be that he makes her feel special?” he told IndiaToday.

Bhatt concluded by saying that Sushmita is someone who has lived her life on her own terms. As per him, she can be the top actress in Bollywood but she never bowed down to any kind of industry. Also, she never became an actor’s girlfriend and sucked up to anyone. He also revealed that he had received an article where Sushmita and her relationship were compared to a cricket team. Meanwhile, Bhatt and Sushmita last met in 2006-2007. They started dating each other at the time when Sushmita was shooting for her debut film, Dastak.
