There rarely come sequel in Bollywood that are able to live up to the promise of their successful originals. However, Tanu Weds Manu Returns was probably the biggest exception to this rule as the movie starring Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan outperformed the first film in all aspects.

Apart from driving huge business at the box office, what and Tanu Weds Manu Returns stand out for Kangana Ranaut, at least was the fact that unlike the original film she actually liked her role and performance.

In an interview in 2015 while promoting Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Kangana had said that she couldn’t stand her performance in Tanu Weds Manu which released in 2011. While Kangana may have been of that opinion, the success of the film and her character certainly told a different story which is what led to much bigger sequel in 2015.

In a chat with Rediff at the time, Kangana was asked if starring in the sequel of her successful film put her under any pressure and the actress had responded saying, “There is no pressure because I am very confident about the film and I have evolved as a person and as an actor. By the way, I hated my performance in Tanu Weds Manu. I cannot stand it. But this time it is good; I like my performance.”

Kangana played the sassy Tanuja Trivedi in the original romantic comedy and went on to play a double role in Tanu Weds Manu Returns taking on the added role of Kusum Sangwan, a Haryanvi student athlete. The double role won Kangana her third National Film Award in 2016 after Queen and Fashion .

Tanu Weds Manu Returns completes 7 years since its release today. Earlier this year, Kangana had hinted at the possibility of reuniting with filmmaker Anand L. Rai for Tanu Weds Manu 3 soon.
