Agneepath starring Hrithik Roshan remains one of the best remakes in the history of Bollywood. While the film borrows its plot from Amitabh Bachchan ’s iconic 1990 movie, the 2012 remake did take a lot of liberties trying to give the story a fresh appeal and one of them was to add Rishi Kapoor ’s character Rauf Lala which worked out wonderfully.

The late actor had delivered a powerful performance in a negative role but it was hard to convince him to take up the job and probably harder to make him keep it after he dropped out of the project upset with Karan Johar once.

The infamous Koffee with Karan episode from 2010 where Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor bashed Ranbir Kapoor did have far reaching consequences and reportedly Rishi Kapoor dropping out of Agneepath was one of them.

According to reports, the late actor was not only fuming over the two actresses and their mean comments about his son but was also upset with Karan believing the producer had instigated those remarks.

On Koffee with Karan, Deepika who had broken up with Ranbir some time ago had said she’d want to gift Ranbir a box of condoms while Sonam who had debuted with him had expressed uncertainity over how good a boyfriend the actor would make.

He had said about the episode in an interview with a tabloid, "Well to put things in the right perspective, all I can say is that with both the girls it is a case of sour grapes. I have known Sonam’s father Anil for years. All I will say to the girls is: in stead of doing all this concentrate on your careers. Why do you run shows that have so much gossip? I have done Koffee With Karan earlier with Neetu, my brothers and sister; there was great camaraderie and laughter on our show. We didn’t run anyone down. I don’t think you should encourage people to wash dirty linen in public. You will never see Ranbir running anyone down.”

There was lot of bad blood after the episode aired but Rishi Kapoor and Karan Johar later hugged and made up and the former returned to shoot for Agneepath.

The actor had once mentioned how he was initially also hesitant to sign up for a negative role in the movie and how the film’s director Karan Malhotra and producer Karan Johar had convinced him to join the set for a month and try it out.

Agneepath has completed a decade since its release today.
