After impressing us as a Mumbai mafia in Sanjay Leela Bhansali ’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, actor Ajay Devgn is reportedly in talks to play yet another powerful role of legendary Indian musician Tansen in the filmmaker’s next project – Baiju Bawra .

Actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt are said to have been finalised for the lead parts in the upcoming film, although no official announcement has yet been made. Bhansali is said to be highly keen to cast Devgn as the second key male lead character of Tansen.

“When SLB worked with Ajay Devgn in Gangubai Kathiawadi after 23 years, he was apprehensive about the experience. But they got along famously. Sanjay Leela Bhansali feels Devgn had a big hand in the success of Gangubai Kathiawadi. He wants Devgn to be part of Baiju Bawra. It is a role with shades of grey in it. But Ajay Devgn has never been afraid to go where others are afraid to,” Bollywood Hungama reported citing an unidentified source.

The source also said that Bhansali first needs to flesh out the role in accordance with Devgn’s star power. However, the actor has not yet signed up for Baiju Bawra but it seems unlikely that he will refuse.

In Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, Devgn plays the extended cameo of Karim Lala, a Mumbai-based gangster. Earlier, the two had collaborated for the first time in ‘ Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam ’, which was a successful venture.

Meanwhile, Baiju Bawra will be Bhansali’s first full-fledged musical based on the story of two singers. The film was announced in 2019, and it was slated to hit the big screen on Diwali 2021. However, the coronavirus pandemic had put all plans in jeopardy. Now, after the success of Gangubai Kathiawadi, the filmmaker is ready to revive his pet project for which he is currently busy finalising the cast of the film.
