Ayushmann Khurrana talks about Ananya Panday’s casting in Dream Girl 2: ‘If you're a Bombay girl, it's tough..’

Back in 2019, Ayushmann Khurrana became our Dream Girl when he first shined on-screen as Pooja in Raaj Shaandilyaa’s directorial debut. His co-star Nushrratt Bharuccha also won hearts with her performance, but all eyes were on Pooja. Well, this year Ayushmann introduced fans to Ananya Panday as his on-screen dream girl when he announced the sequel to his super hit film. While audiences were excited to see the actor as Pooja again, many were unsure about Ananya’s casting in Dream Girl 2. Interestingly, so was Ayushmann. However, his beautiful co-star pleasantly surprised him on set.

In a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, Ayushmann confessed that he was unsure if Ananya would fit into the ‘milieu’. The actor shared, “I was always thinking that she's an urban girl, and how will she get accustomed to the milieu of Mathura, a city from tier-2 India. But I think she adapted really well. We had a dialect coach, Yash Chaturvedi, and he helped us with the accent. Every 10 km, the accent changes in our country. But she was bang on with the accent.”

He went on to explain, “If you're a Bombay girl, it's difficult to catch those accents. Main toh phir bhi Hindi bolta hu, Hindi mein sochta hu toh mujhse phir bhi ho jata hai. But I think she's done a great job in the film. And we've seen that in the past also, Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019). UP ki ek film kar chuki hai.” Well, Ananya also left us impressed with her performance when the trailer of Dream Girl 2 released. Especially her dialogue about taking extra money in case Pooja aka Karam is asked to play any ‘instruments’. We were also pleasantly surprised at how convincing Ananya and Ayushmann looked as an on-screen jodi.

Well, we can’t wait to see the two together on the silver screen when Dream Girl 2 arrives in theatres on 25th August.
