Ghostbusters Afterlife sequel will be set in New York city reveals Director Jason Reitman

During Cinecon Sony Pictures announced that a sequel to Ghostbusters : Afterlife was in development and that the original cast would reprise their roles.

The movie served as a soft reboot of the franchise after the lackluster performance of the 2016 reboot.

Afterlife followed the grandchildren of Egon Spengler(Harold Ramis) played by Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace who stumble on to his legacy of ghost hunting.

The movie also saw the original team returning to the franchise after three decades much to the delight of fans.

According to director Jason Reitman, the sequel will see the team back in New York City where the first two movies took place.

While it is confirmed that Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd will be returning it remains to be seen if Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd will also reprise their roles

Murray had left the franchise after the failure of Ghostbuster's two, despite the best efforts of the original director of the franchise Ivan Reitman to make the third movie, it would be stuck in development hell till 2016.

Bill Murphy avoided reprising his role citing creative differences until his return in Afterlife.

At Cinemacon Jason Reitman told fans

“the character of Winston Zeddemore and Zeddemore Industries figure strongly into the future of Ghostbusters.”

Despite its issues Ghostbusters: Afterlife was embraced by fans and managed to gross over 200 million dollars worldwide.

Sony is also planning on making an animated series headed by Chris Prynoski and Jennifer Kluska which is set to release next year.
