As announced earlier, Dhanush is all set to portray the role of musical maestro Ilaiyaraaja in his biopic. Directed by Arun Matheswaran of Captain Miller fame, the film is currently under production and will soon begin filming.
According to the latest buzz, the filmmaker has decided to create a set replicating Pannaipuram, Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja's birthplace, themed around the 1950s. Reportedly, art director Muthuraj has been brought on board to design the sets, with Nirav Shah handling the cinematography.

Reports suggest that the makers are planning to divide the life story of Ilaiyaraaja into two parts. Although a confirmation from the makers is still awaited, this new buzz has fans excited and eager to explore the life story of India’s greatest musician.

When the project was first announced, the team unveiled a poster featuring Dhanush as Ilaiyaraaja, performing at a concert. The poster evokes the golden era of concerts in old Madras during the 80s. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the biographical film is set to narrate the life story of Tamil composer and Indian musical icon Ilaiyaraaja, highlighting his humble beginnings and his illustrious career spanning over 50 years. The legendary musician has composed around 7,000 melodious pieces in several languages. Initially, Kamal Haasan had come on board to script the film, but in recent posters, Arun Matheswaran is credited for both writing and directing the film.
The film is produced by Hindi based production banner Connekkt Media and will be made on a grand scale.
Dhanush on Ilaiyaraaja biopic
Currently, Dhanush is busy filming for his upcoming movie Kubera with director Sekhar Kammula and will begin shooting for Ilaiyaraaja's biopic shortly after wrapping up this project.
Dhanush, who called himself the biggest Ilaiyaraaja fan, had earlier expressed his joy in starring in the maestro's biopic. "I grew up listening to the songs of the legendary Ilayaraja. I always had a dream of acting in the biopic of Ilaiyaraaja and actor Rajinikanth. One will happen, but don’t know when the other will," the actor said during the launch of the film.
