Maharaja director Nithilan Saminathan in talks with Nayanthara for a female-centric movie?

Filmmaker Nithilan Saminathan is set to make a female-driven movie next, and he has approached Nayanthara for the lead role, according to sources in the Tamil film industry.

The buzz is that the movie has been titled Maharani. However, an official confirmation is still awaited.

Nithilan has emerged as the toast of the Tamil film industry following the blockbuster success of his latest movie, Maharaja . Starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role, Maharaja became one of the highest-grossing movies of 2024, earning more than Rs 100 crore in ticket sales.

Maharaja also holds the distinction of being the first film in Sethupathi's career to cross Rs 100 crore in theatrical collections. The film's success provided Sethupathi with a much-needed boost, as he had been struggling with a confidence crisis.

Maharaja tells the story of an ordinary barber who goes to great lengths to find and punish the men who wronged him. The film received a polarizing response, with some accusing it of handling the issue of sexual crime without sensitivity. However, many praised the movie for its inventive screenplay, which effortlessly moves back and forth in time without confusing the audience.

Soon after Maharaja's success, the who's who of the Tamil film industry congratulated Nithilan. Superstar Rajinikanth and Thalapathy Vijay were among the high-profile stars who publicly endorsed Nithilan, contributing to the film's continued success.

Maharaja also received glowing responses from audiences worldwide following its debut on Netflix. Besides Vijay Sethupathi, the movie also stars Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami Gopikumar, and Singampuli, among others.
