Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has been a critical and commercial success for Dreamworks, despite taking years to get out of devolvement hell the sequel to the 2011 Puss in Boots proved it was worth the wait.

The movie is a spinoff of the highly popular animated movie franchise Shrek, which starred Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz.

Puss in Boots was introduced in the second installment of the franchise, as an assassin hired to kill Shrek but instead becomes his friend.

Like Puss in Boots 2, the fifth installment in the Shrek franchise has been stuck in development hell since 2009 with the project being canceled and renewed a few times.

However thanks to the success of Puss in Boots 2, as well as what was hinted at the end of the movie, it is most likely that we will be getting an update on Sherk 5 sooner than later.

In the sequel we see Puss come to the realization that he has used up eight of his nine lives and so goes on a quest to find 'The Wishing Star', in order to restore his lost lives and on the way encounters his old friend Kitty Softpaws.

The movie directed by Joel Crawford had its American premiere in December and received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike.

While Puss in Boots 2 couldn't beat James Cameron's Avatar: The way of Water at the box office. The sequel did beat the movie on Rotten Tomatoes.

While Avatar 2 has a rating of 77% critics score and a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Puss in Boots has a 96% critics score and a 93% audience score.

The movie even earned a nomination for Best Animated Picture at the 80th Golden Globe awards, which means there is a strong possibility that the movie will be nominated for an Academy Award as well.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish will be hitting theaters across India on January 20, 2023.
