Rohit Shetty to produce a biopic on former Mumbai top cop Rakesh Maria

    The biopic will focus on the experiences of Rakesh Maria’s accomplished career spanning from the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, the underworld menace, to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.

    Filmmaker Rohit Shetty is all set to bring Mumbai’s top cop Rakesh Maria’s life onscreen. The filmmaker in association with Reliance Entertainment will produce a biopic on the former Commissioner of Police, who also investigated the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008.

    The biopic will focus on the experiences of Rakesh Maria’s accomplished career spanning from the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, the underworld menace, to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. Announcing the biographical drama, Rohit said he feels truly honoured to be bringing the real-life super cop’s brave and fearless journey to the screen. The upcoming biopic will be mentored by the filmmaker himself.

    While Rakesh Maria is excited to re-live the journey. He said, “It is exciting to re-live the journey, especially when piloted by a brilliant director like Rohit Shetty.     For the unversed, Rakesh is an IPS officer who stared terror in the face for 36 years. He cracked the Bombay serial blasts case as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in 1993, cracked the Bombay serial blasts case, and later moved to DCP ( Crime ) and then Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), of the Mumbai Police. He is known for solving the 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar twin blasts case. He also successfully investigated the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008 during which he interrogated Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist captured alive.

    Besides Rakesh Maria’s biopic, Rohit is gearing up for his debut digital web show, Indian Police Force which features Sidharth Malhotra , Shilpa Shetty, and Vivek Oberoi in prominent roles. The web show is scheduled to stream on Amazon Prime Video .
