8 Bollywood Films Of 2010s That Are The Best Family Entertainers

The definition of family entertainers has changed a lot in Bollywood. Gone are the good old days of films like Waqt, Chupke Chupke, Hum Apke Hain Koun and DDLJ that were based on family values along with other sub-plots that satisfied every member of the family. The movies of older times were also a primary source of educating and inspiring the Indian audiences.

There were few production houses, directors and actors who only produced, directed and starred in the family-oriented films and actors were happy to be cast. But, there was a change in terms of the content produced from Bollywood and more focus was given on action scenes, skin show, and humorless comedy during recent times. It made very difficult for the families to watch these films together. 

The family entertainers were rare and even if they released, very few would be able to do decent business at the box office. But, a change is happening and in the last few years, the makers and producers have realized that family entertainers and the content-oriented films shouldn't be overlooked as the audiences are hungry for good cinema and not just meaningless comedies, action or erotic films. Golmaal 3 (2010): The Rohit Shetty directorial was also one of the highest grossing films of 2010. The comedy focussed on 2 dysfunctional families who try to live under a single roof and result was downright hilarious that was appreciated by the family audiences.

Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011): The situational comedy starring the leading men of the Deol clan was appreciated by everyone and was one of the rare entertainers that provided clean laughs without being mean. It was also a box office success.

Vicky Donor (2012): The Shoojit Sircar directorial was a gamble that paid off really well as the film dealt with the controversial topic of sperm donation considered a taboo in our country. The film not only educated the audiences but also provided clean entertainment in terms of comedy gags and funny situations and became a sleeper hit.

Chennai Express (2013): The Rohit Shetty directorial was one of the highest grossers of 2013 and is still 7th highest earning Bollywood film worldwide. The film received universal love and cheered for Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in an entertaining action-comedy-romance film.

PK (2014): The Aamir Khan starrer broke all the records upon its release and is currently the 2nd highest domestic grosser. The film was directed by Rajkumar Hirani,  a visionary who has never made a bad film in his career and who has mastered the art of knowing how to serve the right content to the Indian audiences that not only educate them but also entertains them.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015): The Kabir Khan film was the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2015 with collections of 320 Crores and received widespread acclaim from the critics as well as the audiences. The film is one of the best family entertainers from Bollywood in recent times and taught the audiences about humanity, love, and brotherhood.

Dangal (2016): The Nitesh Tiwari directorial is the highest grossing Bollywood film both domestically and internationally. The family drama focused on a tense relationship between a wrestler father and his daughters who forced his daughters into wrestling so they could achieve his dream of bringing an international medal, something he couldn't. The film provided wholesome entertainment and every actor shined in his/her role and the direction was spectacular.

Golmaal Again (2017): The Rohit Shetty directorial is now the highest grossing film of 2017 and one of the prime reasons for that is the clean entertainment it provides. The film was released during Diwali and was made keeping the interests of family audiences in mind. The film has grossed 205 crores till now and is still running strong in the theatres.
