Oscar 2018 Predictions: See Who Is Going To Win In The Major Categories
Updated : March 01, 2018 06:05 PM ISTThe Academy Awards or the Oscars as they are popularly known will take place in Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, the USA on Sunday Night, 4th of March. The Awards Ceremony will be telecasted live at 5.30 am in India. Popular comedian and late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel will be the host for the 2nd year in running after his first stint was very well received by the audiences and the critics.
We are hoping we get to see another fight/playful banter between Matt Damon and Kimmel, swore frenemies, who will be looking to continue their feud. Also, there are a lot of predictions doing rounds on the internet about who is going to win in the major categories like best actor/actress, supporting actor/actress, director, and the best film. This year has seen the release of remarkable films and modern classics and it will be interesting to see who finally wins. Here are our predictions about who should win after carefully watching all the nominated films and performances:
Best Director: This is probably the easiest choice to make if the Academy decides not to shock people and the critics. Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) has scooped the best director award from every major film festival and award function and he is everyone's favorite. The Mexican would like to join his compatriots Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Alfonso Cuaron who have also won the Best Director Oscar.
Best Actor in a Leading Role: The best actor race is probably already won by Gary Oldman, whose impressive turn as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour has won him almost every major Best Actor Award. In September 2017, when the film debuted, everyone knew in an instant that this was an Oscar-worthy performance and its high time now Oldman is awarded the coveted statue.
Best Actress in a Leading Role: Every year, we see a tight race between the Best Actress nominees and there are times when everyone's favorite lost out to a dark horse. This year, we are betting on Frances McDormand 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) as the winner in the Best Actress category for her turn as the grieving mother of a girl who was raped and burnt to death, determined to track down the culprits and calling out to the police for their inaction.
Saoirse Ronan, who gave a heartfelt performance in Lady Bird, could be the surprise winner.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Sam Rockwell seems to be the sure shot winner unless the Academy thinks otherwise and goes for another actor. The actor's turn as the drunk, abusive and racist cop in Martin McDonagh's 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri has won him universal acclaim and lots of Best supporting actor awards.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Allison Janney's turn as the abusive mother in biographical dark-comedy I, Tonya has brought her numerous accolades from all over. She seems to be the favorite but Laurie Metcalf from Lady Bird and Leslie Manville from Phantom Thread can also take home the trophy.
Best Film: The race for the best film is heating up and there are 4 nominees who seem to be the favorites, The Shape of Water, Get Out, 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Lady Bird. But, the odds are heavily in favor of The Shape of Water and it seems it is going to win the Best Picture.
