Baahubali actor Tamannaah Bhatia owes her stardom to commercial cinema

After having done films such as Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), Chand Sa Roshan Chehra (2005), Himmatwala (2013), Entertainment (2014) and Humshakals (2014), actor Tamannaah Bhatia went missing from the Bollywood scene for quite a while. The reason, Tamannah says, was that she was getting similar offers, hence she decided to wait till right projects came her way.

“After Himmatwala, Entertainment and Humshakals, I was getting similar roles and I didn’t want to repeat myself. I wanted to break the girl-next-door image. So when I was offered to play an aurally challenged character in Vasu (Bhagnani) sir’s film, I took it up instantly. I felt it is a great opportunity for me to play something different. I have even gone without make-up for this role,” she says.

The actor has just finished shooting for this yet-to-be-titled film, also starring Prabhudheva. The film doesn’t have a release date yet, as the makers are also planning a Tamil version, and both the films will hit the theatres together.

Meanwhile, Tamannaah, who is reading at least two to three Hindi film scripts a week, confesses of being a total believer in commercial films. “Whatever stardom I have today is because of the commercial films that I have done. I am a total believer of commercial films but that doesn’t make me averse to non-commercial cinema,” says, Tamannaah, who has also worked in Tamil and Telugu films.

Talking about commercial films, Tamannaah wishes to work with actor Ranveer Singh someday. “I love his work. His hardworking nature is also inspiring. I got to work with him for an ad and have seen his dedication. He works really hard on the look of his character so that his part looks convincing. Now that we know each other, I would love to collaborate with him for a film,” she says.
