Suniel Shetty who was on a self-imposed sabbatical for three years, is finally back on screen. The actor is all set to host a reality show and will be making a comeback to television with his show, India’s Asli Champion, after a decade. But, Suneil says that the decision of getting back to the screen wasn’t an easy one. “I have been getting both film and television offers but I was just not interested. My father was unwell for over two years and it was around the same time that I lost the will to go to work. The routine and monotony had gotten to me and I was unhappy with everything around me. Of course, now when I look back, it all worked out perfectly as I got to spend a lot of time with my father. But after my father died (March), I decided that it was time for me to get back to work. I couldn’t take a sabbatical forever. And when this show was offered to me, I was ready to face the camera since the show was all about fitness and passion,” says the actor.

While Suniel was on a break, he didn’t fall off the fitness wagon and maintained a strict diet and fitness schedule. And that is probably the reason the actor is being called ‘sexy and hot’ on social media. “The other day my daughter, Athiya’s friends were showing her some pictures and addressing me as hot. Of course, it is embarrassing but when Athiya came home, she was like. ‘Papa, what is this? You better start ageing’. I told her it’s not like I was doing anything to look young because I don’t even dye my hair. It’s just the result of being fit all these years. I am so glad that Mana (Shetty, wife), Athiya and Ahan (son) have all inherited that habit from me. When we go out together, our kids often tell us that Mana and I look like their siblings. First they ask us to dress fashionably and keep up with the changing times and when we do that, they complain that we look young,” he laughs.

Talking about work, Suniel says that he will be back on the big screen with Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer Reloaded in August. However, he is clear that he will only do roles that he deems fit for his age. “It is a great role. I am sure that I want to do roles that suit my age and do not involve inane singing and dancing. I have no issues in sharing screen space with younger actors or even playing their father. I am a father in real life so I have no qualms playing one on screen. I am not shying away from greying or that fact that I am 55. I just want to choose roles that will make an impact.”
