I Have Taken It Easy For Too Long Says Sharman Joshi

After portraying a naive Raju in 3 Idiots (2009) and a doting Parsi father in Ferrari Ki Sawaari (2012), Sharman Joshi will next be seen as a business tycoon in an upcoming film. As he breaks away from his family-boy image, he has no qualms about letting go of his modesty and taking off his shirt, as seen in some of the promos. “None of the films that I have worked in have allowed me to take my shirt off, except Hate Story 3. I have always been a fitness enthusiast. In fact, when I got the call for 3 Idiots, I had six-pack abs. From that, I had to drop to a family pack. But now, I can show them off once again,” says the actor.

The 36-year-old will also be seen in Vikram Bhatt’s supernatural thriller, 1920 London, Excel Entertainment’s 3 Stories, The Journalist (an English film) — based on the murder of Graham Staines, and Anees Bazmee’s comedy drama. Talking about juggling multiple projects, the actor says, “This is the first time in my professional career that I have taken up so much work, in terms of the number of films and theatre. On an average, I have done one film in two years. But nowadays, I wake up every morning, and realise I have to go to work.”

Sharman, who had a series of flops at the box office after Ferrari Ki Sawaari, has now decided to step up his game. “I have taken it easy for too long. I was also bored of the pace at which I was going. I wanted to work every day of my life, but I was holding back for things to fall right. Less planning and more instinct is going to be my mantra now,” says the actor.

Theatre also keeps him busy. “I did theatre for 10 years before moving on to films. I have resumed theatre after a long gap, and have been travelling across the globe with my new play — Raju Raja Ram Aur Main,” says Sharman.
