Jaya Bachchan finds Happy New Year nonsensical

Farah Khan’s Happy New Year may be on its way to enter the Rs 200 crore club. But yesteryear actress Jaya Bachchan, has termed it as the most nonsensical film, even though her own son Abhishek Bachchan stars in it. Jaya spoke her heart out while attending a literary event in the city.

“'HNY' is the most nonsensical film I've seen in recent years. I watched it only because Abhishek was part of it. I told him he's a great actor if he can act stupid in front of the camera like that,” says the veteran actress. “I can't be part of what is being done in films these days and hence, I don't do films anymore. Cinema today is about business, not art. We call good films art house cinema. What does that even mean? All cinema is art,” she added while giving a lecture on the failure of literature in Indian cinema.

The Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika starrer movie hasn’t received good reviews from critics, though it has pleased masses and has been appreciated by movie-buffs. “I respect their (critics’) views. But I don’t make films for such a niche audience of five to seven people. I try to make films for larger spectrum of people,” King Khan had previously said.
