The makers of Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai, which is slated for release on April 7, have unveiled a new trailer and it’s very evident from the visuals that the film has flashes of the filmmaker’s own Roja. Karthi plays a fighter pilot and it can be understood from the trailer that he crash lands in to man’s land and is held captive. Most people who saw the new trailer could immediately relate it with Roja. Some even went on to ask if the film is Roja.

The new trailer introduces us to Karthi’s character in great detail. He’s seen in two avatars -- featuring thick beard as well as clean shaven. Talking at the film’s audio launch on Monday in Chennai, Karthi said, he wasn’t quite gung go about the idea of taking off his mustache and sporting a clean shaven look.

Nevertheless, when he walked into the set sporting a clean shaven look, the entire unit was stunned by his transformation. Karthi’s brother Suriya at the event said even he couldn’t believe seeing Karthi in a completely new avatar. Suriya went on to add that when the film’s first poster was release, Karthi shared it in his family Whatsapp group and apparently nobody could believe if it was him.

For Karthi, life had come full circle with this project because he had started his career as an assistant director to Mani Ratnam. To see himself act in his guru’s direction meant a lot to him and he is ever thankful for that.
