    Karan Johar appeals to Bombay High Court against I-T notice


    It’s time for some legal difficulties in Karan Johar’s life as he has moved Bombay High Court against a notice issued by Income Tax department. The notice claimed that the filmmaker has not disclosedmore than Rs. 2 crore profits from his filmKabhi Alvida Na Kehnaduring the assessment year 2006-07.In his petition, Johar has cited that the Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Circle 31, had asked to reopen the assessment for the year 2006-07 in the notice, which was issued on March 20, 2012, under Section 148 of Income Tax. Under this section, an officer can ask to reopen assessment only if he believes certain income had escaped notice.

    On the other hand, Johar said he had duly declared an income of Rs. 14.73 crore during the assessment year of 2006-07, which also included profits made from the film. But according to the I-T department’s claims the film reported earnings of Rs. 70.1 crore while the total cost of production was Rs 57.44 crore. Johar has been accused of not disclosing complete details of the expenditure involved in making the film. Johar has appealed against the notice which is illegal according to him. The petition will be heard by a bench of Justices D. Y. Chandrachud and A. A. Sayed, likely on March 6.

    In the meantime, Karan’s mother Hiroo Johar has been hospitalised and has underwent a surgery. Though Karan is going through some complications in his life, he has not forsaken his duty as a son and has always remained by his mother’s side.
