Mahhi Vij on online trolling: People think that actors have time to read their comments

Mahhi Vij has never shied away from speaking her mind. Be it through the characters she portrays on the small screen or her posts on social media, the actor has always taken a stand and not cared about what others say. Mahhi, who often posts her bold photos on Instagram, faces a lot of flak from audiences who can’t relate them to her screen image. “There is block button that I use normally when people do such things. It does not personally affect me. I normally don’t take it to heart,” says Mahhi, who is popularly known as Nakusha from Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Nandini from Balika Vadhu.

While the 35-year-old actor says she doesn’t pay any heed to such offensive comments on social media, she urges that others who get bothered, should also stop doing so. “People think that actors take these things [trolling] to heart because they have a lot of time to read all their comments. I wish they had time, but they don’t. It doesn’t affect any actor.”

Calling social media platforms an actor’s private space, Mahhi feels it should be just okay if someone puts up their personal pictures and nobody should raise a question. “I find it very lame that fans cannot accept actors in their real life avatars wearing Western clothes, just because we are dressed differently in a daily soap. I think people have a lot of time and they’re sitting idle and get a high from picking such fights and sending dirty messages. So I delete such messages or simply ignore them.”
