Producer Ekta Kapoor, who is often known for controversies during her film promotions, is going to face a major setback while promoting her upcoming filmEk Thi Daayan.Author and social activist Ipsita Roy Chakraverti was invited by Balaji Telefilms to be a part of the film’s promotional campaign but the activist has rejected their offer. Further she has taken the responsibility to make strict objections against the portrayal of witches in the film. She also met President Pranab Mukherjee and as per their meeting the matter will be referred to the National Women's Commission Chief Mamta Sharma. The commission has taken up the case as a "matter of national interest" as the recommendation has come from the President’s office. They have ensured that Balaji will also receive a notice in no time.

In the petition, Ipsita has also expressed her astonishment that how a National Award winning actor like Konkona Sen Sharma would star in the film. It’s also very rare that the President himself has forwarded the complaint to the Commission against a Bollywood film. It has also been heard that Ipsita got the favour because she is a close friend of the President's wife Suvra Mukherjee. But Ipsita defended, "It is true I am a family friend of the Mukherjees but that is not why I approached him. I strongly believe that such films should not release in India. I have been told that my complaint will be forwarded to the National Women's Commission by Wednesday evening."

Ekta Kapoor and her production team were completely unaware of the issue and only media reports helped them to become aware of the developments. Ekta was quite annoyed after listening to the allegations made against the film, "How can somebody say that I am degrading women? My film is a work of art. I need to consult my legal team.” Later the production house refused to comment on the issue further till an official communication is sent by the Commission.
