Radhika Apte: The Actress Who Carved A Niche For Herself With Her Unconventional Choices!

Radhika Apte: The Actress Who Carved A Niche For Herself With Her Unconventional Choices!

Radhika Apte- a name that was quite unheard of three years back. The actress, who was seen in a small role in Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi has definitely come a long way. For those who follow Bengali films would know what a fine actress was introduced by Pink director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury back in 2009 with Antaheen, that also starred Rahul Bose and Aparna Sen.

Radhika had to wait for quite some time for her Bollywood breakthrough though. She played Tusshar Kapoor's wife in Shor In The City in 2011. From then on, the actress in films like Manjhi: The Mountain Man, Parched, Padman etc. But what is truly remarkable is how Radhika has become an integral part of Netflix India by being a part of two of Netflix series- Sacred Games and Ghoul.

Radhika Apte had been missing from the Hindi film scenario for quite a while after 2011. This year also saw her in the film I Am, that even though could not do well commercially, was critically acclaimed. Post Shor In The City, the actress returned with a small role in Varun Dhawan starrer Badlapur. The screen time was limited and her presence can be called a cameo. But Radhika sure knows how to walk away with the cake as she left audiences charmed in that limited stint!

Radhika Apte is also a rare example of an actress who pulls off a balance between critical and commercial cinema without quite compromising with the quality of the roles that she is offered.

Right from Hunterr to Manjhi: The Mountain Man to Kaun Kitne Paani Mein, the films showcased her acting talent even though it has limited exposure. So was the case with Parched. The film got her attention, but for all the wrong reasons when a portion of the film featuring her and Adil Hussain was circulated as a sex clip. But Radhika, instead of getting perturbed, handles her like a pro and never let it bog her down.

Radhika has been part of commercial films like Padman as well, but without compromising with the quality of her character. Radhika's character in the film has substance.

The actress has recently been in so many Netflix series that she is called omnipresent, which is a compliment to be honest. In just this year itself, she has as many as 5 more upcoming projects- Baazar, Bombairiya,  Indian-American fantasy thriller The Ashram, Tamil film Ula and Andhadhun.

And we can just eagerly wait to watch her even more and take over Bollywood!
