Rajinikanth the only superstar: Raghava Lawrence on 'Makkal Superstar' title

Raghava Lawrence, who was at the receiving end of Rajinikanth fans on Thursday for the new title ‘Makkal Superstar’ which appeared during the title credits of his latest outing Motta Siva Ketta Siva, has said he doesn’t deserve the title and that Rajinikanth is the one and only superstar.

“The Director had told me that he would spring me a big surprise in the movie. Today it was a huge surprise to see the title ‘Makkal Super Star’ in my name in the movie. I would like to state that I do not feel I deserve this title and I can only say that there is and can only be one superstar and that is our Thalaivar Rajinikanth. I am a huge fan of Super Star Rajinikanth. It is he who introduced me to this film industry. And I first saw my Raghavendra Swamy in him. I am absolutely grateful to him in every way. I will forever remain a fan of him[sic],” said Lawrence in a statement.

Lawrence also revealed that he will be called ‘Kanmani Raghava Lawrence’ going forward as a tribute to his mother Kanmani. “Nothing can bring me more happiness than my mother’s name. No title is equal to this,” he added.

Director Sai Ramani also tendered an apology statement last night. “I felt this title will be befitting to Lawrence due to the extensive humanitarian and social activities he has been doing with his Raghavendra Trust. But, he was not happy with the title. He called and condemned me immediately. I would like to apologize to everyone who is hurt,” he said.
