Shraddha Kapoor Roped In To Play Saina Nehwal In Biopic

It seems to be biopic trend in Bollywood with many filmmakers taking inspiration from real life events and people. Several biopics have been made on well known people such as Paan Singh Tomar, Sarabjit Singh and many others. Biopics on Sanjay Dutt, Bhushan Kumar among others are being made now, but it looks like that biopics on sportspeople interests our filmmakers the most.

Farhan Akhtar played Milka Singh, Priyanka Chopra as Mary kom, Sushant Singh Rajput as Mahendra Singh Dhoni or Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh playing wrestling champions Phogat sisters, now there is one more sportsperson whose life filmmakers are keen to explore.  Director Amole Gupte, who also directed critically acclaimed movies like Taare Zameen Par and Stanley Ka Dabba, has shown his interest in making a film on the life of badminton player Saina Nehwal. Actress Shraddha has been approached to portray the player in film.

“Most girls have played badminton at some point in their lives in school. I feel so lucky to be playing Saina, who’s not just been the world’s No. 1 badminton player, but is also a youth icon. I can’t wait to start prepping for my role,” said the 30-year-old actress.

Saina was very happy about hearing the news of a biopic made on her life. She even expressed her happiness when she got to know that Shraddha will be playing her in the film as she is a good friend of hers. Meanwhile, Shraddha is currently busy with Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai in which she is playing Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar.
