Sonam Kapoor is 'not okay with being gossipy': I don't want to rate people on chat...

Over the years, Sonam Kapoor has earned the reputation for being an ‘outspoken and intelligent’ woman, thanks to her opinion on several issues. She isn’t the once to mince words on matters of importance – be it women’s right, politics or body shaming. But of late, the actor is exercising restrain on having an opinion about everything, something she has learnt in the recent past. This change has been brought about because, sometimes, especially on chat shows, anything that she says gets blown out if proportion.

In one of her appearances on film-maker Karan Johar’s chat show in the previous seasons, her not-so-flattering statements about Ranbir Kapoor were splashed all across. But when she appeared on the chat show, this season, with her co-star from her next film, Kareena Kapoor Khan, she was a much-mellowed down version of herself. Ask her what brought about the change in attitude and she says, “Everyone says controversial stuff on the show. But, when I say something, it gets blown out of proportion. When in one of the segments, I was asked to rate people, I refused. I don’t want to rate people on chat shows. It is the formal of the show but I am not okay with being gossipy about stuff like this. I don’t want to make provocative statements. I don’t want to be in that position,” Sonam says.

Though she didn’t voice her opinion about ‘people’ on the show, Sonam says she will continue to talk about issues that demand her attention. “If I have to speak about anything provocative, I’d rather make that statement on national television on an issue that has some gravitas. No one needs to know my opinion about any actor on chat shows. I’d rather reserve them for issues that actually matter and honestly, I have too much going on in my life to be making statements about other people,” says the Neerja (2015) actor.
