Udta Punjab Will Not Release In Pakistan; Makers Refuse 100 Cuts

Makers of ‘Udta Punjab’ have finally decided that they will not release the film in Pakistan with 100 cuts as suggested by the Censor Board of the country. Director Abhishek Chaubey said in a statement, “It definitely means loss of revenue if the film is not released in Pakistan. But more than that... it would make no sense to release it with the said cuts. The film is intended to convey something and make a point”.

When asked if the makers will fight against the censor board in Pakistan as well, he said, “There is no scope to fight our case in Pakistan. So, we decided not to release the film there”.

Defending the use of expletives in the movie, the director said, “There was a bigger message that we wanted to convey with the movie and that was against drug peddling and drug abuse. The film had to reflect reality”. He added the film had the potential to perform even better at the box office if it was not leaked online before the scheduled release.
