The long running speculations finally meet an end. It has been announced by Rob Thomas on Sunday that Leighton Meester is not in for the Veronica Mars movie. Instead the lead singer of the band Twin Sister, Andrea Estella, will appear in her role.

For two episodes Meester appeared as Carrie Bishop during the first season of the UPN/CW series. In an email to the supporters of the movie's Kickstarter campaign, creator Thomas said that he had hopes of casting Meester in the movie but clash of dates is the sole spoiler. He wrote, "Sadly, Leighton was doing a different movie during the same time frame on the wrong coast," adding "In the end, she was unavailable."

He added, "One of the reasons I wanted Leighton, beyond her talent/beauty/history in the show, was that we needed a performer who could sing in this important role.” "Once it became evident that we couldn't make Leighton's schedule work, I decided to cast someone from a band I already wanted in the movie,” he wrote further. He also praised her new member in the film Estella, saying she "has an amazing voice; I can’t get enough of it." Estella on her end wrote, "I watched theVeronica Marspilot and was totally into it!" "It's the exact kind of show I would get obsessed with, so it's been a bit of dream to be in a movie, especially being a messed-up rock princess. How could I say no? I think theVMfans are going to be very happy!", she added.
