According to recent reports, novelist Andy Weir has teamed up with The Martian director Ridley Scott as well as British-born American screenwriter and film producer Simon Kinberg to develop a new project for 20th Century Fox. Reportedly, Weir has sold a pitch to Fox and will also write the script for the movie. This will be the author's first screenplay ever.

Story details of the upcoming project have not been revealed yet. The writer self-published his first novel, The Martian, as a free serial on his website in 2011 and later made it available as an e-book on Amazon Kindle. Then, the author sold the rights to Crown Publishing. The successful novel was made into a movie of the same title.

The adaptation grossed $630 million at the global box office. The flick also garnered seven Academy Award nominations, including best picture for Scott, Kinberg, Michael Schaefer and Mark Huffman, best actor for Matt Damon and best adapted screenplay for Drew Goddard. Scott is currently busy with Alien: Covenant, which is expected to release on August 4, 2017.
