The Tracking Board has reported that director Kenneth Branagh will be directing and developing the big screen adaptation Artemis Fowl. The hit novel franchise was written by Eoin Colfer. Kenneth is known for his direction of Thor and Cinderella.

The book series focuses on a 12-year-old boy named Artemis. He is a criminal mastermind millionaire who has got into some serious trouble after kidnapping a fairy. Though his purpose for this is to save his family, he intends to do it by harnessing the fairy’s powers. The screenplay for the cinematic adaptation will be scripted by Conor McPherson.

The movie will be based on the first and second part of the novel series, Artemis Fowl and Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident. Harvey Weinstein and Kenneth will be producing the movie. Harvey stated back in 2013, “This is a special project for me because my children absolutely love this book. This story is for everyone and there is no one better than Disney to make a film that will excite people young and old”.
