Big names like Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone were doing the rounds for the role of Hillary Rodham Clinton in her upcoming biopic Rodham. But keeping all of them aside, it is Carey Mulligan who seems to be winning the race.

The producers have selected The Great Gatsby star Mulligan to play Clinton in her career-shaping years when she was dedicated to public service. Paradoxically, the name of the British actress, who got a best actress Oscar nomination for An Education, never surfaced before. As told by sources to THR, formal discussions will take place between the actress and the director James Ponsoldt while both the parties are looking forward to materialise the deal. Close sources have also pointed out that no final decision on the casting has been taken yet and the other actresses still feature in the consideration list.

The biopic will also comprise of her career twists and her doubtful emotions for president-in-making Bill Clinton. Post her huge success as Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, Mulligan has been the top pick in the directors’ list. And if the role of Clinton comes to her, it would be a lifetime opportunity for the talented actress to show her acting skills.
