    Daniel Espinosa to direct big screen adaptation of The Emigrants

    Daniel Espinosa is set to direct the big screen adaptation of The Emigrants. The novel was written by Vilhelm Moberg in 1949, and is the first book of The Emigrant series. The 38-year-old director is well known for his for his films, which include Easy Money and Child 44.

    The book focuses on the story of a Karl Oskar Nilsson and his wife, Kristina. The family own, a farm land in Sweden, and work hard to make a living. But due to poor harvest, which leads to famines the family think of emigrating from their home county to America in search of a better life.

    The movie will be produced by Svensk's Fredrik Wikstrom Nicastro. The script for the film has been written by Petter Skavlan. Shooting for the film is expected to begin in 2017, in the Vastra Gotaland region of Sweden. The 1971 adaptation by Jan Troell won a Golden Globe awards in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
