Ed Sheeran’s Cameo In Game of Thrones Gets Mixed Reviews

Game of Thrones kicked off its seventh season with the first episode airing on July 16th. It was well received by the audiences but what caught them by surprise was singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s cameo. He played the role of a Lannister soldier who is camping with his group.

Fans of the show felt that his cameo was “unsubtle”, maybe because he was singing in his recognisable voice. Arya Stark, who is travelling alone to King's Landing, comes across a group of soldiers sitting around a fire and having a merry time. Ed is singing the song ‘Hands of Gold’, which is present in the books by George R.R. Martin. While Ed has just a couple of lines besides the song, he gets sufficient screen time.

Previously, members of Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Sigur Ros and Mastodon have made small appearances in the show but Ed’s cameo is the biggest musician cameo till now. The 26-year-old also shared a photo on his Instagram and captioned it, “Throwback to the time I was a Lannister”. The second episode of Game of Thrones will be released on July 23.
