The Beverly Hills Cop actor Eddie Murphy is in talks to play fictional '60s soul singer Murray Murray in the comedy Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story, a fake documentary-style movie for streaming service Netflix. Deadline first reported that Eddie Murphy is in negotiations to star in a mockumentary for the video streaming service with his friend Brett Ratner serving as director.

Murphy will reportedly play the lead in Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story, a fake documentary about a singer from the 1960’s who attempts to take down the hip-hop genre after a hot new artist samples his hit song from 1962. Brian Grazer and Tyler Mitchell are producing the picture which was penned by Chris Chase. Murphy's involvement was first rumoured in October.

Murphy is attached to star in the now Lee Daniels-less Richard Pryor biopic, while Ratner next directorial effort will be The Libertine starring Johnny Depp and Marion Cotillard. Murphy will next appear alongside Britt Robertson in the fact-based drama, Mr. Church, and he’s attached to portray Richard Pryor’s father, LeRoy, in the biopic, Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?
