G.I. Joe: Retaliation tops on box office grossing $320 million overseas
G.I. Joe: Retaliation, a sequel of sci-fi action filmG.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,has beaten the record of its previous release and has earned a total of $320 million globally. With $40 million from 62 foreign markets, the flick has marked itself as no. 1 in its second week with Tom Cruise’sOblivionremaining at no. 2 position.
The film directed by Jon M. Chu, hasDwayneJohnson andBruce Willis, whose action stunts have glommed the audience. This Paramount picture has not earned much in North America. Just $111 million was fetched from the domestic cinemas, but the foreign markets have earned it two-thirds of its revenue. Paramount's decision to convert it to a 3D movie by delaying the film by nine months from last June has worked wonders commercially.
With the success of the 2ndinstallment ofG.I. Joe, the studio has decided to move for its thirds sequel. Right now,DwayneJohnson is working onPain & Gain, Fast & Furious 6, Empire State,releasing in 2013 andFast & Furious 7andHercules: The Thracian Warsis to head the theatres in 2014.
