Gina Rodriguez to star in Purple Hearts

Gina Rodriguez will be seen starring in Ben Lewin’s Purple Hearts. The 30-year-old actress is best known for essaying the role of Jane Villanueva in the CW comedy-drama series, Jane the Virgin, for which she also won a Golden Globe Award. Gina Rodriguez was last seen on the big screen in Nicole Gomez Fisher’s Sleeping with the Fishes (2013).

Purple Hearts narrates the love story of a musician (played by Rodriguez) and a soldier. The couple ties the knot under a false pretence, but gradually they started feeling for each other. “We’re extremely passionate about this story, and are confident we have the perfect team in place to bring it to life as a movie”, said Les Morgenstein, president of Alloy Entertainment.

The movie will be produced by Alloy Entertainment Features and Amy Baer under the banner of Gidden Media. The film, described as a ‘military romance’, has been written by Kyle Jarrow and will be helmed by The Sessions director Ben Lewin. Rodriguez will also be seen in Peter Berg‘s Deepwater Horizon later this year.
