Jake Gyllenhaal (Southpaw, Nightcrawler) is poised to star in an adaptation of ‘Tom Clancy’s: The Division,’ a video game released by Ubisoft earlier this year, according to reports. Gyllenhaal will also be producing the film. Although not many details are currently known, as the studio is still seeking a writer and director for the project. Also, Ubisoft has not yet commented on the big-screen adaption of its popular multiplayer game.

The third-person shooter game is set in New York City, following a smallpox outbreak. The player is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, or The Divisionin Manhattan and is tasked with investigating the outbreak and restoring order. The game was developed for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and is Ubisoft’s fastest-selling product.

As reported by Variety, a movie based on The Division shouldn't be that surprising as it was the best-selling video game in the history, based on its first week users. Tom Clancy's: The Division generated a surprising $330m in only five days. As of mid-May, it had over 9.5 million registered users.
