We recently told you about the sequel of 1964 film ‘Mary Poppins’ whose shooting is going on in full swing. Titled as ‘Mary Poppins Returns’, the movie will see actress Emily Blunt playing the role of Mary Poppins which was initially played by Julie Andrews. The American musical fantasy comedy film is directed and produced by Rob Marshall.

And now we have heard that veteran actress Meryl Streep has been approached to essay the role of Topsy, cousin of Mary Poppins. The Oscar winning actress has earlier worked with Rob in 'Into the Woods', which released in 2014. The director decided to cast Meryl in the film because of its message of optimism.

She would be playing the character who lives in her own world of upside-downs and opposites. After Michael Banks (played by Ben Whishaw) loses his wife Jane Banks (Emily Mortimer), Mary reappears to help Banks’ family members smile again. She is visited by nanny (Emily Blunt) and Banks’ children during their adventurous lessons.
