    Mission ‘Finding Dory’ Accomplished At Box Office

    Finding Dory might've arrived on Father's Day weekend, but it was women who pushed the Pixar sequel to a record $136.2 million in domestic box office. Dory now stands as the biggest animated U.S. opening of all time, overtaking Shrek the Third, which grossed $121.6 million in 2007. It was also Pixar's biggest debut weekend to date, with the previous high being Toy Story 3 ($110.3 million in 2010).

    Dory also opened in 29 international territories this weekend scoring an estimated $50 million for a global opening gross of $186.2 million. The weekend’s other big release, Central Intelligence grabbed healthy $34.5M, slightly above its $30M projection. The action spy comedy stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart as the mismatched duo at the heart of the action. New Line, Warner Bros. and Universal teamed up to foot the bill for the $50M action comedy with New Line releasing the film domestically with Universal handling international distribution.

    The Conjuring 2, slid 62% to third place with $15.6M for a domestic total of $71.7M. Also in its second frame, Lionsgate’s Now You See Me 2 fell 57% to $9.7M for a domestic total of $41.4M. By comparison, 2013’s Now You See Me fell only 35% in its second weekend.
