Natalie Portman Got Three Times Less Salary Than Ashton Kutcher

The 2011 romantic comedy titled ‘No Strings Attached’ starred Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman in the lead roles. Directed by Ivan Reitman, it told the story of a couple who falls in love after agreeing to a strictly physical relationship. While the two actors had roles of equal importance, their salary for the project was definitely not the same. Recently, Natalie opened up about the issue and shared that her co-star was paid three times more than what she was paid.

Talking to Marie Claire U.K., the actress said, “Ashton Kutcher was paid three times as much as me on No Strings Attached. I knew and I went along with it because there’s this thing with ‘quotes’ in Hollywood. Your quote is the highest you’ve ever been paid. His quote was three times higher than mine so they said he should get paid three times more”.

Natalie added that at that time, she wasn’t as upset as she should have been as she still got a generous amount but, the disparity was something that really bothered her. “Compared to men, in most professions, women make 80 cents to the dollar. In Hollywood, we are making 30 cents to the dollar”, the V for Vendetta actress shared.

Over the years, the 35-year-old actress has been part of several renowned projects like the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Closer, Garden State and the recently released biographical drama ‘Jackie’. Her performance in the film is being lauded by the audiences.
