Natalie Portman in talks to star in Alex Garland’s latest project

Natalie Portman is in talks to star in Alex Garland’s Annihilation. The movie has been described as a post-apocalyptic horror adventure film. The film is the big screen adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s book of the same name.

The movie focuses on a biologist-to be played by Natalie Portman. She undertakes a four-person expedition into Area X, a territory, which is cut off from the rest of the world. During the expedition Portman deals with a mysterious contagion, disappearing colleagues, a deadly animal and a being known as the Crawler. All while searching for clues regarding her husband’s disappearance.

The project will be produced by Paramount Pictures along with Scott Rudin. Alex Garland wrote the script for the film, which was adapted from VanderMeer’s book. Known for writing The Beach and 28 Days Later, Garland’s stock has risen considerably after the success of Ex Machina.
