Pacific Rim 2 Is Finally Coming To Theatres In 2018

Pacific Rim 2 is in the works, and the film has been given a release date of February 23, 2018. The movie will star John Boyega, the breakout actor of the hit film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Boyega will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the Guillermo del Toro-directed original film.

 “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox,” said del Toro earlier. “The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal, and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”

Previously, producer del Toro has hinted about the sequel's tone: "Some people were wondering if we were going to do the prequel. I was never interested in doing that first wave of invasion.

"I'm going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one, which are very different from the first one - but you will get a really great spectacle."

Steven S. DeKnight is directing Pacific Rim 2. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter is executive producer. The original Pacific Rim made over $400 million at the worldwide box office in 2013.
