Star Wars VII Crosses the Billion-dollar Mark

After Universal’s Jurassic World it is Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks the record of Universal’s Jurassic World by 1 day to reach $1 billion at the box office. Jurassic World that released earlier this year in May was able to reach the $1 billion bench mark in 13 days, while the seventh episode of Star Wars crossed the billion dollar mark in 12 days. The achieved the milestone with record-setting hyper speed.

The box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian of Rentrak said, “You almost have to rewrite all the record books for this movie.” He added, “It’s absolutely mind-blowing that Star Wars could get to a billion dollars in 12 days and it hasn’t even opened in China, the second biggest movie market in the world.”  The movie is slated for a January 9 release in China.

Seems like Paul is in awe of the film, the analyst said, “It’s great for the audiences, great for studios and theatre owners in particular who can point to this and say the movie theatre industry is as viable and relevant as it’s ever been.”
