Supergirl Adds Floriana Lima To Play Maggie Sawyer

Floriana Lima is the newest member of the Supergirl season 2 cast, as she lands the role of Detective Maggie Sawyer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lima's character in Supergirl Season 2 will be a detective working for the National City Police Department, who's interested in taking on cases involving aliens.

Maggie Sawyer first appeared on the pages of Kara’s cousin’s titles as the captain of Metropolis Science Police, a special division that deals with metahuman and alien threats. She was one of the first mainstream DC characters to come out and has several relationships over the years. At one point, she was in a high profile relationship with Batwoman.

The character was created by John Byrne in the late ’80s and introduced as Captain of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit in the pages of “Superman.” She was later revealed to be gay, making her one of the first openly gay characters in mainstream comics. Supergirl makes its CW debut with the season 2 premiere on October 10, at 8 p.m.
