Terminator Genisys Hopes for Redemption through China Release

With a not so special debut of the movie in the U.S., Paramount is looking to redeem itself with the China release. The Chinese movie market generates more than $100 million on a regular basis. It can provide the studio with the much needed economical push.

The Chinese market has helped several movies recover in the past including Need for Speed, Escape Plan and Cloud Atlas. Often the Chinese market favours uncommon public opinion. Bait 3D and The Expendables 3 got a good reception in China but failed to get appreciation everywhere else. Terminator franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger is widely appreciated in China, which might prove to be an anchor for the new Terminator movie.

Another reason why the China release might positively impact the movie is that the Chinese populous greatly appreciate movies with robots, machines and enormous destruction. Movies like Transformers 4 made $245 million in the North America, whereas in China the flick made $320 million. Fast and Furious 7 made $391 million in China, which was $40 million more than what it made domestically. Since, Terminator has a lot of eye candy for the Chinese viewers, Paramount might just get the needed appreciation.
