It is known that The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Will Smith, will not be present in the sequel to the hit 1996 film Independence Day. The reasons stated for his absence were that the actor’s asking price was too high and that he was a little doubtful about dipping back into the sci-fi genre. Will played the role of fighter pilot Steven Hiller who played a pivotal role in the original film.

The actor recently shared his feelings on the sequel and his absence and said, “I was working on ‘Suicide Squad’ during that time. Roland and I had talked about it. The trailer looks really cool. I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out… It was terrible when I found out my character died”. That’s right, Steven Hiller was killed off.

Back in 2007, the viral website warof1996.com stated, “While test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller’s valor in the War of 96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan”.
