Willem Dafoe has been tapped in to star in the thriller ‘Motherless Brooklyn’, which is an adaptation of the Jonathan Lethem novel. The flick already stars Edward Norton. Apart from acting, Norton will direct, write and produce the film via his Class 5 Films production company.

He will produce the film along with William Migliore, Stuart Blumberg, MWM Studios’ Gigi Pritzker, and Rachel Shane. Sue Kroll, who resigned from Warner Bros. last month after a major shakeup, will serve as the executive producer.  Jonathan’s novel won the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction in 1999.

Lionel Essrog, who is the protagonist in the novel, suffers from Tourette syndrome and works as a private eye at a makeshift detective agency. Norton will essay the role of Lionel. The film is set in 1954 and revolves around a young woman who is protesting against a powerful developer, who designs neighbourhoods as slums so that people can purchase property. Dafoe will play the developer’s brother.
