Aindrita Ray Speaks About Pay Disparity In Sandalwood

After Hollywood and Bollywood, the issue of pay disparity has now been brought up to Sandalwood as well. Following Ramya, who had spilled the beans in 2014 on how producers are ready to pay handsome amounts to “imported” actresses and bargain with the ones from the state, Aindrita Ray has also spoken about the same recently. The ‘Mungaru Male 2’ actress has confessed that the difference between hero’s and heroine’s income in Kannada film industry is quite large.

Aindrita Ray said in a statement, “There should be some justice to the pay of the heroines as well in the industry. Most heroines get only 5%-10% of the lead actor's pay, which is very little for the amount of work they put in. I haven't demanded equal pay, but what I advocate is bridging the gap in this disparity”.

Choosing to be anonymous, another leading actress from the industry told TOI, “Most filmmakers try to cut corners usually through the heroine's remuneration. They would rather get a youngster or newcomer onboard by paying them very little, than spend on an established heroine. Yet, they are ready to play to the whims and fancies of the leading men or even some of the top supporting male stars”.
